Doctor Octopus
TB-MSH-S1-004
Doctor Octopus was one of the most visually interesting figures in the 1990 eight-backs
lineup, and Toy Biz leaned hard into what makes the character unique. The four mechanical
tentacle arms extend from his back and are individually poseable — you can wrap them around
other figures, prop him up, or just twist them into whatever menacing configuration suits
the moment. For a figure at this price point, that’s a lot of play value packed in.
The sculpt captures Otto Octavius at his classic comics look: green-and-yellow jumpsuit,
round tinted glasses, and the perpetual scowl of a man who has been underestimated one too
many times. The tentacles themselves are a soft plastic that holds poses reasonably well
without snapping — a smart material choice for a feature that kids would be constantly
repositioning.
As the only Spider-Man villain in the original eight-backs (alongside Doctor Doom on the
villain side), Doc Ock was the natural foil for the Spider-Man figure on the same card back.
A lot of these ended up in the same toybox, which is exactly where they belonged.
