Faction/Char: Avengers Hulk
Type: Figures
Released: 1990 Wave: Series 1 Est. retail: $4.99 (USD)

The Hulk stood out immediately on the 1990 card back — literally. Bulkier than every other
figure in the Series 1 lineup, he was the obvious choice for a kid who wanted the biggest
character on the shelf. Toy Biz leaned into the scale difference, giving him a noticeably
wider torso and thicker limbs that made the other eight-backs look almost dainty beside him.

His gimmick was the “Crushing Arm Action”: squeeze the figure’s legs together and both arms
raise up, as if Hulk is mid-smash. Release, and they drop back down. It’s the kind of
feature that sounds underwhelming on paper but works surprisingly well in play — smashing
things with Hulk’s outstretched arms is basically the whole point of owning a Hulk figure.

The green-and-purple deco is classic comics-accurate, and the paint on the facial expression — that trademark grimace — reads well for a mass-market retail figure at
this price. No accessories needed when you’re the Hulk.
